Greetings!

Hey, I've gotten a temp full time job in Grenada for 10 months. Unfortunately, my financial status is poor at best. I would welcome suggestions:

First, I looking for a long term retnal. As I mentioned I'm not outrageously wealthy and so I'm looking for affordable accomadations on the SW region of the island. I'm also looking for roomates so that I may split the cost. Where do I look and whom do I speak to?

Second, I'll be needing some form of transportation around the island. Would it be better if I were to buy a vehicle or rent one? Once again, I am looking for something affordable...not at tourist rates?

Third, when I'm not working, I'm looking for things to do. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi vitriol,

glad to hear that you were able to find a temp job.
If you are looking for accommodations in the SW of the island, then you will need to check the local papers classifieds for the best deals. I would suggest renting somewhere reasonable, like maybe Tamernique Apartments or Lazy Lagoon till you can find somewhere more permanent.
Tamernique also offers long term rentals.
As for vehicles, it is probably cheaper to buy a secondhand one rather than rent, as the rental price can be between US$35 - $60/day.
Best way to find out what there is to do on the island is to ask around when you are here, as i don't know what your interests are.....hashiong, parties etc??

Hi Neil,

Thank you for answearing promptly. I'll definitely take your advice and probably end up staying most likely in Lazy Lagoon (temp) Then I'll check out the classifieds and find something more permanent.

Do you know where I could search for rommates? Is there a roommate forum? I thought about looking at SGU for potential roommates, but I'm waivering on that...they are students and filled with the stress of studying etc... I want to study a little as well, aside from work, but I also want to have a little adventure and spice.

In answear to your question, I'm down for pretty much anything. I'm quite an avid explorer and like to hike and snorkle around a little. I'm in my late 20's so I don't party like I used to...but I can party! So, if you have any suggestions, they are more than welcome.

Ok..this is going to sound like a stupid question, but please educate me. In this forum I've seen the term Hash used as a verb (not a noun) what sort of an event is hashing? From the way people write of it in the forum, it sounds like a fun event.

Hi Vitriol........when are you moving to Grenada? I too am moving to Grenada at the end of this month for at least a year. I can highly recommend Lazy Lagoon. I stayed there for 6 weeks last year and am staying there for a couple of weeks this time before I find somewhere more permanent. The cottages are basic, but welkl affordable and have everything you need. But the best thing about Lazy is the bar! It is a very cool, relaxed place and a great place to meet people. I am still good friends with the people I met there lay year.
Let me know if you plan to stay there and when...it's nice to know someone else is in the same boat a me!

Hi Leanne,

I'm going down to Grenada to work for SGU. As it turns out, they will accomadate at their housing until I find permanent housing...

Regarding housing...SGU students just found out today if they recieved on-campus housing. So, I figure in the next week or so, those who did not get it will scramble for housing off campus. This should work out nicely for everyone. I hope that by the time we get, the landlords who still have empty apartments will be willing to negotiate very reasonable prices.

While on the Island, I plan on dividing my time up between work, study, other, and fun. By fun, I'm interested in exploring the island(s) in the Caribbean. What are your plans?

I won't be staying in Lazy Lagoon, but I do plan on going there and checking out the bar...along with the rest of the Island. As you mentioned, it would be great to know someone who is in the same boat as me.

I'm always receptive to good company.

We are starting a project in Grenada within the month and are looking for a 4 bdrm house in the southwestern part of the island - hi speed net connection is a MUST. Any suggestions on reliable realtors or does anyone know of a furnished property available. Does not have to be on the beach! Maximum we'd pay is $2500US/mo including utilities. Thanks, folks!

I highly would recommend to book a cheap short term apartment for your first month in Grenada. As soon as you arrive buy one of the Newspaper and look for the classified section. Make some calls and have a look at the houses before you make a decission. We have some good real estate agents here, but most of them have real high price rentals.

Do you have any friend or family on the island? If so ask them to hear around for some rental properties.
