Not sure if this is the right forum on which to post these questions but hopefully someone will be able to help.
My fiancé and I are considering coming to Grenada for our honeymoon in early Jan2006.
We're looking at staying at the Blue Horizon Garden Resort because of the location, joint facilities at its sister resort (The Spice Island Beach Resort) and its self catering options.
What we'd like to know is
1. How expensive it to eat out on Grenada in comparison to the UK. Is it worth doing the self catering route or would it be wiser to go all inclusive. What we don't want to do is go self catering and end up losing out financially.
2. Have most of the food establishments reopened after the incidents of previous years.
and
3. Will all the facilities at the Spice Island Beach Resort be up and running by Jan2006, as guests of the Blue Horizon can use a selection.
Any feedback would be gratefully received.
I'll defer to administrators for definitive answers but give my opinion regardless. I love BH and use of SI facilities -- my favorite of about eight places I've stayed. Recommend doing some self-catering -- breakfast and lunch -- and visiting the restaurants for dinner. Most are open (I've been to Grenada three times this year) and are worth the money. Many would require cab or bus; some will pick you up. Dining out is maybe 20% more expensive than in the states, don't know about UK. Spiceland Mall (2' walk) has big grocery store to stock your full kitchen. SI is 8' walk and is should be open in December. By then, if not by now, Aquanauts should reopen their shop there, with use of Hobie cat, kayaks, etc. The renovation of BH looks great. Have a great time. Call Telfor Bedeau if you're interested in hiking/exploring. Let me know when you'll be there and if I'm "in town" I'll be glad to buy you a rum punch.
Doubt that you want to delay your honeymoon, but the Grenada Sailing Festival is at the end of January 2006 and is a great event. I've been twice. Check out grenadasailingfestival.com.
Hey Waddies,
the Spice will be officially open by mid December, so i don't think you have to worry about that. Of course, their services will be available at the same time.
The Blue Horizons is a great choice, and i would suggest the self-catering option. Supermarket is only about 5 minutes walk away like drbob said, and the majority of restaurants are open again.
Shopping, banks and food is all within easy walking distance.
Thanks drbob & Neil,
Your words of wisdom are most assuring. Looks like our first impressions of the BH were right. Great place to stay.
Just needed to be re-assured about the state of the island and facilities.
Looks like it could be a goer for Jan2006.
Thanks
Stewart
Hi Waddies,
If you fancy a luxury self catering check out Twelve Degrees North run by Joseph Gaylord. Ideal for peace & quiet (no children allowed ) You sort out your groceries and you have your own housekeeper who will come in and cook you breakfast lunch and prepare you an evening meal if you want it. All his ladies are great cooks and the grounds are very private and relaxing. Check his website www.twelvedegreesnorth.com. My wife and I stayed there one Christmas and would definately go back. Congrats on your forthcoming wedding.
regards
Richard

I would say eat out as much as you can in Grenada, there are some wonderful places to eat, generally cheaper than in the UK, with the added bonus of wonderful settings. I have paid way more to eat in a bog standard Gatwick hotel sometimes.
Good Luck
