Grenada's restaurants have a tantalizing uniqueness about them, and sometimes food or service or whatever changes from time to time there. We thought that we would encourage board members who have visited restaurants in Grenada recently to post their comments here, good or bad. The posts would assist all of us in making our choices when we get to Grenada. Thanks

Picture of Boots Cuisine Interior The Owners, and close family. Curried Chicken Lambi Roti The Bar at Boots Boot's and Ruby's youngest son. Boots Cuisine Is owned by Ruby and Roland “Boots” Mc Sween. They were both born and raised in Grenada. They have been open for approximately 16 months at the time of this review. They have 2 sons and 1 daughter. The restaurant is located in the front of their residence, in the Woodlands section of Grenada, just on the side of Grand Anse Valley Road. We were met at the gate by Ruby, and then introduced to her husband Boots. They greeted us warmly, and asked us about ourselves and our vacation as they showed us to our table. The restaurant has 7-9 tables, and is open air under a roof that is supported by stone columns. There are fresh flowers on the table, which is covered with a linen tablecloth and napkins and china plates. There are hanging plants decorating the ceiling. One end of the restaurant has a large curved bar, that was painted by a local artist. In the background, soft jazz is playing, a welcome departure from many local places. It is important to mention that this is also a smoke free restaurant. There are also several pictures on the walls that were painted by Boots. Boots used to be the headwaiter at a well-known local restaurant / hotel, before it was sold and closed its doors. He has many years in the restaurant business, and it shows in his attention to detail. We are shown to our table, and Ruby takes our drink orders. We had already called, and told her what we wanted to eat, more or less. Other dishes were left up to Boots to be a surprise. The appetizers are served promptly. Appetizer: Lambi Souse. Tender chunks of Lambi (Conch), served with a spicy clear broth and chunks of fresh tomato from the garden. Boots has a secret to make the Lambi very tender. He shared it with me, but I was sworn to secrecy. Callaloo: A thick broth made from the leaves of the Dasheen. Greenish black, and very filling. Entrée: Lambi Roti. The smell of fresh ginger was the first thing you noticed. The smell alone was thick enough to cut with a knife, and it made your mouth water in anticipation of the delights to come. The roti was filled with large chunks of tenderized lambi, potato’s and other items. It was served attractively on the plate with fresh tomato slices, and a side salad. Entrée: Curried Chicken This was served with the traditional rice and peas, plantains, sweet potato and blogo salad. Also, cane juice was served as a drink. A side dish of steamed veggies complimented this as well. Steamed carrots, squash, green beans, christophine and okra. Entrée: Chicken Fingers. Strips of breaded and fried white meat chicken, for the finicky eater ! Desert: Carambola Pie. Made with Sorrell, golden apples, seasoned with nutmeg and served with banana ice cream. It is hard to describe the food we had here in adequate detail. All I can say is that this was some of the best food that we had ever had. Everything was fresh, tasty, served properly and attractively, just perfection. This is authentic Grenadian cooking at its best. Not only that, but Ruby and Boots were gracious hosts and made for a very enjoyable evening. They spent time describing each dish, and explaining its preparation as well as the history of some of the foods. The food was so good, that even though you were full, you continued to eat as it would be a crime to waste it, and you found it hard to stop enjoying the taste sensations. -------------------- |

I talked to Ruby after the storm. They lost part of the roof, which was over the restaurant. They were planning on fixing it, as soon as materials became available. They had a great attitude, and were just thankful that no one was injured or killed in their area. They were out helping others in the area.

This place looks fantastic and I'll definitely add it to our musts-dine list for upcoming trip in July. Based on one of the pictures that Anse provided, it looks like casual attire is appropriate--nice shorts, nice shirts, but long pants not needed. Am I correct on this?
Does anybody have a loose price range for Boots? Are credit cards accepted or is it cash only? Thank you! -------------------- Emily Crowe

This place looks fantastic and I'll definitely add it to our musts-dine list for upcoming trip in July. Casual dress would be fine, it's quite an informal place. The price of the set menu is $50EC per person, that includes three starters, a main dish and a pudding - absolutely FANTASTIC!! Cannot recommend this place highly enough and Ruby and Boots are lovely!
