Carriacou has finally their own Tourism Association and you can find information about them & Carriacou online at http://carriacoupetitemartinique.com
Note: site is still under construction. -------------------- Mieka

Thanks for the link, it has been very useful in helping me make up my mind about where to stay on our next visit. We have decided to stay one week on Grenada and one week on Carriacou. I would reallly appreciate advice off anyone about how this works out when you have 3 suitcases. I assume we would not be allowed to take that much luggage on the SVG planes, do we have to fly it over on a separate flight? Is it better to stay on Grenada or Carriacou for the first week with regards connecting flights from the UK? Thanks for any advice. I think you will have to travel into Grenada first, and if you did not, you will probably run into the same baggage limitations as you are finding now. Many people will stay in Grenada & the hotel will hold onto some of the luggage for them while they visit Carriacou. Another option is to send your bags over on the Osprey, maybe with your husband, and you could fly over and meet them there. Thanks, does this mean we would have to stay a few days in Grenada, then a week in Carriacou and then a few days back in Grenada? What a potch! (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) We would still need a fair amount for a week on Carriacou. If I was brave enough to take the ferry, would they allow more baggage than the plane? Do you know the baggage allowance for the plane? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. The baggage limit is going to depend on how many people are flying with you at the same time, and how much they weigh. It could be as little as 30 pounds, and possible as much as 50 pounds per person. All depends on which plane they are flying, and how many people are on it.
The Osprey is pretty much open to bringing whatever luggage you have. A small tip will take car of any issue you may have. Stay in Grenada one night on your arrival, send the husband over on the Osprey the next A.M., fly over and meet him via SVG, and by that time he should have all the baggage at the hotel, unpacked and a cold one waiting for you. Repeat on the return trip to Grenada. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) -------------------- |

Your advice sounds great in theory but in practice there is a huge problem, ME!!! I am so s**t scared of flying I don't think I could do it on my own, the kids would dessert me for sure as they know what a coward I am. (IMG:http://img134.exs.cx/img134/7420/partysmiley0047ls.gif) Thanks for the advice, makes sense to stay only one night in Grenada first and then we will have more lovely days in Grenada to look forward to on our return (bb (bb (bb -------------------- Search for a lovely thing and you will find it. BE-
We wrestled with the same problem re- combining Grenada/Carriacou visits. When American Eagle arrives in Grenada at 8:50 pm and departs at 8:30 am, there is no way to avoid spending both the first and last nights in Grenada. We decided to make the best of it, and schedule 2 nights in Grenada after our Carriacou visit to allow us time to regroup, repack, etc., but it does seem like a lot of extra effort. <_< I am also concerned about the baggage weight problem when flying SGV- but will have to sort that one out after we are there. It makes me want to carry as little as possible to Grenada, but I wonder if purchasing things in Grenada might not be as easy as before Ivan? ie- should I carry a voltage transformer, or assume that one would be available in Grenada/Carriacou? I'm getting down to the pre-packing stage and am considering if I should take some gift items for kids, etc.? Anyone have any ideas about what they might need or enjoy? I wonder when you return, can you let me know how you sorted out the baggage problem please. I am wondering whether we could leave things in Grenada and buy extras in Carriacou. The kids always insist on taking 3 tons of beach toys, cricket, balls, blow ups etc. If there was somewhere on Carriacou that sells this sort of thing (I doubt it), I could buy them there and then give them to some children before we return. Anyone know if any of this sort of stuff can be bought on Carriacou. Thanks -------------------- Search for a lovely thing and you will find it. It is not far, it never will be far.

OK, but I'm not going to investigate taking more than one ton of baggage. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) -------------------- CaribRon |

Perhaps I could leave the kids behind in Grenada for a week and use their seats for my stuff. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Nicola,
No wonder you've got baggage problems. It's a non-starter for most people... they just wouldn't take the 'bleepin' toys. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Just say no, and buy the toys in Carriacou. Carriacou was not hit hard by Ivan, and the stores still have the same goods as before Ivan. The stores have probably restocked for Christmas. Then when you leave Grenada, you can leave them for the children with either the Red Cross or Monja and Neil who will distribute them to some needy children in Grenada. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) See, no extra baggage coming or going. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) At which hotel in Grenada are you planning on staying? PS - I'm almost afraid to ask but, with who were you going to leave the kids? Have a terrific trip. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Jim |

Hmmm, the kids, maybe I could start a hire a grandkid agency and get them fostered out to some golden oldies (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) We will be staying at the Grenada Grand, I have never revisited a hotel before but we are all missing it terribly. I also feel a loyalty to the staff there as they were so good to us. It was my favourite spot on Grand Anse. The rooms we stayed in were left roofless after Ivan so at least they will be redecorated, they did need it. We thought that as the Grand View Inn has had good reviews here, we would stay there for the first night before going to Carriacou. We ate there in May and the views of Grand Anse are so good. We have grander plans for our visit to Carriacou. We had planned to return to Paradise Inn, it will not be beat for value for money, BUT, unfortunately (for our pockets), since Mieka posted the new Carriacou site, I have fallen hopelessly in love with a place advertised there, I'd better not mention it here. It is most definately outside our budget but I've set my mind on it, I was wondering how best to spend Pauls compensation (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Haven't decided when we can go though as we have already booked next Mays holiday in July. Maybe Xmas 2005, if not it will have to wait till May 2006 (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (Our plans with regard a 3 month stay in Grenada to look for work have gone a bit pearshaped since Ivan, we have not ruled it out though). -------------------- Search for a lovely thing and you will find it. Hey, I'm back!
Will just try to update a few topics before getting serious about trip report. BE- Had no problems with baggage anywhere. Left two suitcases at the Gem when traveling to Carriacou, took two suitcases and a large travel bag on SVG, plus carried on a backpack and another travel bag- both flights were full. We had the back seats on the return trip, and had to lean forward while they stuffed some large duffle bags behind us. If we ever stopped sharply, we would have been smothered with baggage- but it turned out ok. (bb -------------------- CaribRon |

Welcome back. Thanks for the tip about the bags, that's a huge weight off my mind, I would never have been able to condense my stuff to a carry-on bag. Can't wait to hear about your trip. (bb -------------------- Search for a lovely thing and you will find it. It is not far, it never will be far.
