Greetings from the Great White North!
We're starting to plan our 'post Windjammer' two night stay in December. I know it's a bit early but we've had 80 inches of snow so far this winter and I need to cling to something! We have enjoyed our stays at Mariposa in the past and particularly enjoy the pool area. I read that the pool was scheduled to reopen at the end of February. Any update on that? And how is the new construction at Sur la Mer coming along? We've spent many happy hours lounging around there with an ice cold Carib........ahhhhh, wish I was there right now!
Thanks for the update,
Pam

The rebuilding of Sur La Mer is going on as I write. Two weeks ago it was just a frame which appeared to cut off the view of Morne Rouge Beach across from the Gem resort. There is still no word on Mariposa's pool, but things take a long time to happen in Grenada especially when there is sometimes a shortage of money, and for sure a shortage of building materials.

Tourism from Germany and the UK is on-going and planeloads of British tourists arrive 3 times per week. Germany's Condor arrives once per week and this also helps a lot for producing revenue for the country.

But, tourism from North America to Grenada is severely lacking due to the Travel Agents Organizations putting a stop lock on Grenada (this is a big disservice to Grenada and its people). The airlines are following suit as they didn't want to take a chance of not filling their planes if only a few packages were being sold by the TA's.

It is neither cheap nor convenient to get to Grenada from the USA and Canada. There are few if any direct flights, and waiting around for other airlines to pick you up in airline hubs is the pits, to say the least.

Pam, even though it is not the easiest thing to accomplish, I hope you will have a wonderful time in Grenada because it is still the prettiest island I know in the Caribbean, and it definitely needs North American visitors which used to account for about 65% of all visitors to this beautiful vacation destination.

Hi Pam,

I think the pool at mariposa resort is finished. I will pass later and take some new photos and let you know exactly what is ready and what is still under construction.

Regards
Monja

Thanks Jim & Monja,
You ain't kiddin' it's tough to get there. Our airfare is out of sight! Some of that is due to our flying in to Antigua (where we board Mandalay) and out of Grenada, I understand, but geez this is higher than it's ever been. That really doesn't matter to us as we make this trip every two years but I can imagine it's not good for tourism.

Hi Pam,

just visit Mariposa Resort and Gem. The pool at Mariposa is finished (see photo below) but a bit green :-)

Gem is still building the new restaurant at the beach (see our photo album for the latest shot).

Beautiful, thanks Monja. I'll go take a look at the Gem construction next. Everything will be perfect when we get there - it always is! Can't wait to sit by the pool and watch the cows wander down the beach - awesome spot.
