Hi folks!

We are going on a Windjammer cruise the in June 2005 and need accomodations in Grenada for a couple of days. I am trying to decide between the Flamboyant and Allmanda. I know both were damaged during the hurricane but I don't know the extent of their respective recoveries.

I have perused the update file at the very top of this forum but was wondering if anyone had more specific info. on these two properties.

Thanks!!

As a matter of fact, both the Allamanda and Flamboyant are open for business now. Of the two, the Allamanda was damaged the least, but the Flamboyant is rebuilding and should be finished (or nearly so) by June. At any rate, your main deciding factors would be the price and view (whether you would like to be almost on the beach or looking down at it).
Hope you have a wonderful cruise on the Windjammer.

Thanks!! Veddy veddy interesting.

The folks at Windjammer were not up-to-date on the accomodations. Agent said Allmanda was open but restaurant, pool and bar were closed. He didn't know much about Flamboyant.

Is Allmanda totally open - - bar and all? (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Would love personal feedback / suggestions from folks in the know!

Options thru Windjammer:
Flamboyant $120 (incl. 18% tax and stuff)
Allmanda $145 oceanview, $115 garden (incl. 18%)
Blue Horizon $120
Mariposa - dont know price

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance. Great forum!

I just phoned the Allamanda and the bar & restaurant will be open from April 15th, 2005
The rate if you book now for June is US$ 88.50 + tax. Price can change soon.

Did some checking for you and found that the FLamboyant should be finished with construction of the main areas, bar, restaurant and pool area, by June. The pool is open now though.
Room rates are pretty much the same as offered by Windjammer.
Hope this helps with your decision making...

All the best

The Flamboyant does have a few steps you need to walk up (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Just a thought - I have been told that the Allamanda's bar is "dry" as in they only serve juice etc. Can't confirm this from personal experience.

When I was considering the Allamanda a couple months ago they told me they had no hot water yet. You might want to check.
I'd recommend Gem Beach Resort, just over the hill from Grand Anse (10' walk). Great beach of its own.

You guys are awesome! Thanks!

I emailed both the Flamboyant and Allamanda directly to ask and clarify some of these questions. Will post back to let everyone know their response.

We plan to stay at one of the "Windjammer" hotels (Flamboyant, Allamanda, Mariposa, Blue Horizon) since we are booking everything through them and getting the trip insurance. Next time we go, we may book directly ourselves and try another of the hotels you all suggested.

Stairs don't bother me much but being on the ocean is always best. But a working bar is pretty important (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

If anyone hears anything new, I'd love to hear it.

I can't wait until this cruise...thanks again folks!

Last time we did a WJ, we stayed at the Flamboyant and really enjoyed it. It does have lots of stairs to climb, so you will burn off those additional calories - no problem.

While I don't know about the progress of the repairs, which should factor into your choice ... on our one visit to Grenada last June, we stayed at the Flamboyant, and most definately will return and stay there again. There are stairs, but really not a big deal ... a little exercise is a good thing anyway. The best thing about the Flamboyant are the views though, and well worth climbing the stairs. Just my $.02

I agree - the views are awesome! I got lots of good pictures from the patio of our room... And yes, the steps are no big deal.

Our favorite is Mariposa but I haven't seen any feedback on the boards from people having stayed there since the hurricane. Love that pool perched on the side of the cliff! Nothing like a cocktail there at sunset....or whenever!! A short walk down to the beach and Sur la Mer (damaged but may be open by June?) on Morne Rouge. Enjoy your Windjammer - I'll be doing weeks 16 & 17 this November on Mandalay. I'm still trying to decide if I like it...... (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
