Does anyone have any "new" photos of the pool, beach and rooms of the Grenada Grand? I'm going to be in Grenada in mid-July and am trying to decide between a couple of properties. The Grenada Grand has NOT updated the photos on their website and that worries me. I'm wondering if they have something to hide. I'm especially interested in the pool, bar, restaurant, beach areas and curious to see what they look like now. I have seen the updated photos in the forum but there are only a couple and they don't include photos of the areas I'm concerned about. Any help would be appreciated. You can e-mail photos directly to me or post them on the Forum.

Claudia,

The pictures on the Grand's website have not been updated even before Ivan. Hopefully, they will realize the need for people to see things as they are, but I don't think they will update the site to show that. I don't think I would do it either, as work is in progress, and things are changing as new plants and old grow daily.

I am sure that the pools are just fine, they have the nicest pool in Grenada in my opinion, the fantasy pool. I have seen a number of pics of Grand Anse, and the sand is still white, and the waters are still blue, and the temperature is still warm. There are many of the coconut tree's along the beach that came down, as well as some of the sea grape tree's. But the beach is still a great place.

I would not worry about the restaurant, they have plenty of area to serve food, but you will still be better served to plan on eating at other places and experiencing Grenada's other restaurants. The bar never was anything fancy, so I am sure that they have that taken care of. I hope so !!! (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Maybe Monja or Neil can snap a few pictures in the next couple of weeks.

Many thanks. Do you know if the fantasy pool and bar and beach are accessible to non-guests?

Also, which property (in your opinion!!) is the funkiest - clean, cool comfortable and fun for two adults looking for sun and fun but not rip-roaring partying? If you feel more comfortable e-mailing me that information privately so as not to offend any loyalists, please e-mail me privately.

Non guests (for the most part (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ) are welcome at the bar. If you are buying drinks, or food, you are welcome. I have never asked about using the fantasy pool, or the older pool as a non staying guest. There is security at the front entrance to the property, as well as someone usually at the rear of the property, but if you tell them that you are going to the restaurant, or the pool bar, you should have no problems. All of the beaches in Gernada are public property up to the high tide waterline. You will see a white fence with a couple of gates that show this line at the Grand.

The Grand serves brakfast and dinner in the main restaurant which is very close to the fantasy pool. Lunch is served at the bar that is located next to the fantasy pool. Around 5p.m., that bar closes and they open one that is next to the older pool (which was just redone last year and is nice). It is one of the best locations for a sunset view that has a bar nearby.

I like the Grand, although if you search here, I will be the first one to admit that it can have its problems, but most places can. I have never been a fan of the restaurant for dinner, breakfast is good, and lunch can be so os, bit they have a great basket of fries that is hard to pass up. I have stayed there a number of times, so I now know how to get things accomplished there. I also stayed at the Mariposa last year, and enjoyed that setting, although I missed the location of the Grand, and the fantasy pool.

There are a number of great places to stay in Grenada. I like the Grand Anse Beach area, hence I like the Grand for its location and ammenities. Mosy places you will stay will be very quiet compared to what most people expect. Grenada is very laid back, and it is not a destination that has mega hotels and lots of concrete poured up to the waterline. You can find nightlife if you want it, and depending on what dates you are there, you may find lots of it. What dates will you be there ? Will you be there for Carnival ? Hi charrisdc

the Grand seems to have completed their repairs, even to their conference center (though i realise you may not be needing this;-).
We will try to take a few photos for you this week and post them on the forum....

All the best

Thanks Anse for your great (as always) feedback and Neil for your comments and for trying to get some more photos of the Grenada Grand for me. The hotel should update their website - it's in their best interest - and my limited experience with websites (updating and managing) is that it's too way easy not to do regularly!

I've been following Neil, Monja, Anse, SandCrab and everyone for years now but decided to try out the forum for a little personal advise this time.

I've been to Grenada twice before so I know what to expect. I've stayed at the Grand View and an "inn" that is no longer in business at the top of a hill in St. Georges - fantastic views but can't remember the name. Spent time at the Flamboyant and Gem and have loved them all for different reasons.

Right now its a toss up between the Grenada Grand and True Blue. I like the off-beat feel of True Blue but haven't visited it in person. I'm bringing my boyfriend this time (first visit for him) so I'm just concerned that we'll miss Grand Anse and the resort hotel "experience" if we're not staying there. We probably will eat out all meals but breakfast, trying new restaurants and returning to some of my old favorites - like the Nutmeg, Boatyard, Aquarium.

We'll be in Grenada in mid-July (11-17) and I can't wait. No Carnival, alas, this time. I've got to solve a little dilemna about some land that I own and this will be a "working" vacation. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Hi. I will throw in a friend's opinion... I have not stayed at either True Blue or Grand, but a friend who frequents Grenada LOVES the True Blue. She takes the short taxi ride to a beach (Aquarium is her favorite), and visits the places she wants to. The service at True Blue is wonderful, the rooms are great, and she can't say enough about it. I "almost" booked our wedding there for next June, and did a lot of debating before deciding on Bel Air. But, I must say I'm still wanting to try True Blue. (Maybe next time...) Good luck. According to my friend, you would not be sorry with True Blue.

Any recent pics from the Grand by anyone? I so do not trust that hotel, but location, location, location, they say, so with rates at $99 they cannot be beat...

Update . . .

I visited the Grenada Grand in July - was there during Hurricane Emily. We stayed elsewhere but checked out the pools, beach, etc. at the Grand. Pretty much everything seemed to be in very good condition. Appeared that some sections of rooms were still being repaired/remodeled but guests looked happy and the public areas looked great.
