Hi all
I was interested to know what the opportunities to learn to surf out in Grenada were. From reading this board I can see that there's not really any surf (if that's the correct terminology!) in Grenada. So I am keen to know if there are any other water sports like wind surfing or maybe even sailing. Last time I was out there I learnt to dive, but I am interested in doing something above water this time!
I am moving out to Grenada for a year in aug, so I have time to commit to learning a new sport.

Thanks!
Leanne xx

Hi leanne_m_b,
the bad news is that there is not much surf in Grenada right now. Even when there is, the best places are in Grenville and Lance Aux Epines Point.
Noone here teaches surfing, but you can learn to windsurf at Ecodive&Trek (www.ecodiveandtrek.com). They do not have it advertised on their website as yet because they are only now offering it. They are located at the Grand Beach Resort, on the beach.
You can also do kayaking here now (www.spicekayaking.com) and there are one or two boats on the beach which offer waterskiing occassionally (sorry, but don't have any contact info for them).
Hiking is always an option and for something a little different, you can check out the Grenada Hash House Harriers (www.grenadahash.com).
If all else fails, there is always professional suntanning...suntan lotion, beach, sunny day.

Two words to sum up the hottest water sport in the world now (and flourishing all around the Grenadines): kite surfing. Google: kite surfing and you will see why!

Neil,

What happened to The Big Bamboo Surf Shop at Le Marquis? When we were there last summer, Derek told us that he was renting surf boards as well as offering surfing and windsurfing lessons and rentals ?

I know the shop was damaged in the hurricane, has he not re-opened ?

Hi Anse,

Derek sold his business last month and he moved back to Canada.
The shop is still closed, since Marquis Complex is doing huge renovations.
Until now we don't know much about the new owner, and if he will offer kite surfing.

Neil and Brewa,

Wow! I am now very excited at the prospect of some out door fun in Grenada. Looked on the web sites for Grenada Hash House Harriers and that looks like a complete hoot. Slightly scared by the idea of kite surfing (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) , but am keen to try some new things.

Hopefully I'll make some friends soon when I finally get out there next month who will come along with me. If not, I'm sure it will be a good way to meet some people. I am leaving behind my whole life back in England and whilst excited, I would be lying if I said I wasnt nervous! But I never was one to shy form a challenge.

Thanks again...God bless.
