HI! Longtime lurker and new poster here!!! Sorry but this is kind of long...
I"ll be heading off to Grenada for a Windjammer Cruise in late october for our honeymoon, and need help deciding where to stay before and after! OK, for the relaxing leg , which will be ~3 nights, I was thinking lasagesse, True Blue, or lance aux epines cottages, but open for other possibilites if anyone can suggest them. Thats when we plan on just lounging around, do some water sports, etc. I think this will be our before leg because I will not know grenada at all besides whatever i find online or in the guest book. For the "after" leg, we're looking for soemthing with more activities, like deep sea fishing, kayaking, going to hte market, tours, etc. I was thinking of something bigger, either the Rex or Grenada Grand. Both have great internet booking rates too, about the same as Lasagesse and L.A.E. cottages. We will stay for 4 nights here, I figure this would be better because it is in a more populated part of the island with more things to do, and I'd be able to get input from other passengers and crew from the cruise about places to go and eat and such in Grand Anse and St Georges. All seem like such wonderful places, I can't decide. Anyone know why the Rex Grenadian and the Grenada Grand have such cheap rates? are they still recovering from Ivan? Please share your experiences, opinoins, reviews, and suggestions! Looking for something under $200/ night, preferably around $120. Thanks!! Krissy PS- keep your fingers crossed that Emily and whatever other tropical storms/hurricanes pass by the grenadines... |

Krissy,
Welcome to the posting experience here on the forum. Glad to see you jump in, the waters fine.! Any of your choices would be good picks. LaSagesse is very nice, but very secluded and quiet. Not much in the way of watersports other than some swimming, but a short cab ride will take you to those activities. LAE cottages are nice, and they did have some watersports things available for guests at one time. Check their website or send them an e-mail to make sure though. True Blue is also a good choice, it is on the Southern end of the island and right next to a marina. It is not as secluded as LAE cottages, and definately not as remote as LaSagesse, but any of those choices are good picks. You will find more activity and more options on the West side of the island / the Grand Anse Beach area. I would pick the Grand for proximity to things, and the Rex for room amenities. Take a look at posts here, any restaurant advice you could need is here in the forums. I would choose the Grand, because I like the proximity to stores, restaurants and the bus line that it offers. It also has a great location and great views. Read up on some of my previous posts about it / do a search on Grenada Grand here on the forum. Thanks Anse!
I've actually read thru a bunch of posting already on the above mentioned places, and indulged myself with your photo albums as well ! Your phots are fantastic by the way, and its only getting me more and more excited! I don't mind the secludedness the first couple days, it will be nice to relax and "honeymoon" (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I also came across Petit Bacaye.. looks lovely as well! Sometimes I wish i wasn't the most indecisive person I know... Thanks again for the help and info! Kristin |

I just returned on 7/18/05 from a week at the True Blue and it was absolutely wonderful - fantastic property, wonderful staff, great food, etc. The Bayview rooms are huge and have GREAT views. The daily rate includes a nice continental breakfast - so calculate that in when you compare to the other options. True Blue is a "boutique-style" smaller property. Our room was huge and had a fully-equipped kitchen. We also spent time at the Grenada Grand, enjoying their bar, pool and beach. I think the accommodations at True Blue are far superior - larger, more appealing, brighter, etc. - but the pools (fantasy and beachside), pool bars and beach at the Grand were all a bit better. I think the prices at the Grand are a little better because its a bigger (by far) property and they need to fill the rooms to pay for their staff/services/etc. As for the Rex, I heard it just reopened last week, which may be why the prices are good - they're trying to get back into the scene.

I have not had a chance to write about my recent trip as I got back less that 24 hours ago, but I have to agree and say that True Blue is my favorite. I have had the chance to stay at a largehandful of hotels, and the rest I know well through friends staying at them. (although, I do not have any experience with spiceisland). On my past stay, my wife and I stayed in the villas at true blue...... I was blown away. The best resort rooms in grenada, well, they are highly competative. Similar to the ones at Bel Air. (also very nice) All the rooms at true blue are worth their price. I have stayed in the bayview, the indago, and now the villas. I would recomend any one of them. As far as activities the aquanauts (diving company) is on the resort, and there is a yacht charter as well. The resort offers hobbie cats and kyacks, and great restaurant and all though they are not on grande anse beach, they are an easy ride away.
At the rex the lower rooms are open while the upper are not. They are nice rooms. located on the beach. They have a nice pool, and a few restaurants in the hotel. they are also near the airport, the beach house restaurant (a must for a night of fine dinning), the aquarium restaurant (also very very nice) and dr.grooms beach, which has a thai restaurant (not sure if it is open). |

(hit the wrong button and got cut off)
La sagesse is nice for seclusion and a quiet getaway. nice beach. The nice part about hotels on grand anse is the accesibilty to the beach. Some love to be on the beach all the time, I am a fair skinned at they come, so that is not always my most favorite place. Fortunately,or unfortunately, my wife loves to stay in the sun all day. SO we compromise by going to different beaches all day, and I favor the ones with more shade! Anyway, the grand anse beaches are also nice and convienieant to amentities with out the need of any vehicles. well... I will sto my rambling. -mike |

I don't believe that La Sagesse has a/c (which for me is a requirement). At least I didn't see it listed on their website. We are staying at Bel Air next year. I've heard wonderful things all around about True Blue - a friend's very favorite place! We had a huge toss up between True Blue and Bel Air...
