I just returned from a glorious week on Grenada's northside. I stayed at Summerhill a villa near Levera Beach. The house is perched on a hilltop with spectacular panoramic views in every direction of the ocean, beach, remote uninhabited islands, Sugarloaf Island, Levera Beach and Carricou in the distance. From my vantage point high on a hill, I saw nothing remotely connected with civilization. The 4 bedroom villa's main room with 20 foot ceilings is spacious and open, beautifully furnished, with lovely landscaping. I loved being surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants, seeing hummingbirds. The house takes full advantage of the views and tradewinds. The air is a sweet breeze. In the evenings, while lying on my bed, I enjoyed staring out at the moonlight dancing on the ocean. In the a.m. I eagerly awoke early to gaze at the gorgeous views. Everywhere one looks soothes the eyes and the soul. This was my first visit to Grenada and my first villa vacation. It surpassed my expectations. The host arranged for a car pickup at the airport. The ride from the airport to the villa was an enjoyable 1 1/2 hours drive through the hilly and lush countryside. The villa is staffed with a cook and driver. My mornings began with laps in the pool. Afternoons were spent on the nearby uninhabited Levera beach directly across Sugarloaf Island. The Beach is one of the major nesting sights for the leatherback sea turtle. I hope to return next year during nesting season. My visit was in early December - the wet season. If it rained - wait a minute - it turned into a great day in Paradise! After a rain I saw the most incredible fully arched panoramic rainbow. On day 2 the driver took me to the nearby town to shop for fresh fish, vegetables and fruit at the local market. A few days later we ventured out to the Chocolate Factory to sample the islands fine dark chocolate. I was thrilled with everything I discovered, experienced, saw, heard, devoured. I encourage everyone who wants to live in luxury and get a real local feel for island living to stay at Summerhill. I had no idea what a fabulous time one can have on Grenada and look forward to future visits. Next time I'll visit the spice factory, the monkeys in the rainforest, boat to one of the nearby uninhabited islands, visit the rum factory and the waterfalls. For 2007 the owner is renting the entire villa for $2000 a week. Great for 4 couples but 2 is perfect. My direct flight on Air Jamaica cost $360 from NYC with a departure and return midweek. The currency is $2.60 Grenada dollars to $1.00 US. To the host - Thanks for providing such a wonderful base of operations for my first land based trip to Grenada. I encourage everyone to contact me (shirley.barnes@citigroup.com) if you have questions about the house, the island or just to say hello. Spice Isle Villas manages Summerhill. Now I yearn to be awoken at 5 a.m by tropical showers, leaping out of bed to slam the doors against the warm, driving rain. I miss the ocean breeze blowing through my room in the night. I miss jumping in the pool, the stars, the lizards and the frogs, the gorgeous views.

Thank you so much for posting your excellent experience in the north of Grenada. I know the villa Summerhill, which is located on a gorgeous spot. I am sure breakfast with that view in the mornings must have been fabulous. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

It's a nice place and I gather the owners may do overdue repairs soon, I hope. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
