We are going to Grenada in April and will be staying at the Azzura Castle villa, has anyone ever stayed there, based on pictures and what i have read, it seems quite beautiful but no right on the beach. What would be the closest beach and the best restaurant around there. (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hi Manon,
wow - you did a great choice with choosing Azzurra Castle. This is one of the most gorgeous villas in Grenada, you will live like Royals. As far as I know they have a little motor boat right on the dock, so you can visit as many small secluded beaches, you like. Did you had a look at their own website? http://www.azzurracastle.com/ The site features lots of information and photos. I wish I could stay with you in the villa :banna -------------------- Mieka

This has got to be the most exclusive villa in Grenada. Sounds like you will be pampered. I still find the size and its color offensive to the environment, but that is just my opinion...

Hi Manon,
I've stayed at Azzurra Castle. Its quite a remarkable and unusual property. The website pictures don't do it justice, I guess because its so spread out its very hard to picture things as a whole. Pretty much as you walk in the living area (with TV, CD player and piano) is in a covered yet open area. To the left is an informal eating area covered with a bamboo type screening, just beyond is the formal dining further back from that is the smoking room and up some narrow stairs is access to the roof. To the right is the kitchen, just by the kitchen is a small alcove where guests can find a fridg to their access and glassware, etc. Steps down from this first area is the pool deck enclosed with a wall and doors that face the cove, its was quite windy when we were there so kept them closed. On this level to the left was a guest bedroom and forward was the master suite. The master suite had a king bed and a sitting room which was larger. Very comfortable furniture in sitting room. To the right of the pool area you will find two more guest suites, all with I beleive queen beds...I stayed in the master so I'm not sure. Out the doors from the pool area is a large concrete deck with access to the conference/exercise room and futhure down some steps to the left is the turret accomodations. In the turret, you'll find a large king bed atop with kitchenette and down below a room with twin beds. The turret is perfect for teenagers or a nanny, I would not put small children there. The lower room with twin beds did not have a/c and our older teen boys were not so comfortable at night. If you picture a smallish room, not much air flow and lazy boys who really didn't unpack much and sleeping until noon it smelled like a gym locker! They did however have a fan, not sure if that was good or bad. The staff was wonderful and took care of us. We opted to have set meal times as there were 15 of us, it worked much better for the staff. We encouraged the cook (I cannot remember her name and feel bad!) to cook local. For breakfast, we had the normal eggs, etc and a few mornings a wonderful salt fish dish, for lunch typically assorted sandwiches and dinner varied based on the local availability, had lambi (conch) one night, another we requested a local dish called 'Oil Down' and others chicken and rice. Ask her to make from 'jacks'. Really we've found in all our Caribbean rentals is to go with what they know to make and you'll get some great food. There is ok snorkelling in the cove but better is Moliniere Pt or just off Pink Gin near Aquarium restaurant (recommended). Sagesse nearby the villa is a nice and quiet beach. I hope this helps, any other questions feel free to ask. I'm headed to Grenada in early March. Best wishes and have a great time. |

More to add after reading replies. There was no boat while we were there, perhaps if you request it they will arrange it. We did not ask, although it would come with a boatman its not something you could take out on your own. There is no beach, access to the cove is from a ladder from turret area. Yes I tend to agree on the comment about the color and architecture, in a way it is out of place and might even be in my opinion tacky....however I don't own it :tired
Was an extremely nice stay. |
