I need urgent help!
I've found out on the Grenada homepage which documents are required to get marriage in Grenada but the only thing is, I don't clear understand what they mean with the Proof of Single Status. Is this enough for Grenada's law, when I have an official affidavit certified by lawyer or do I need some other judicial or certified by court documents? Please, can anyone answer to my question? We fixed our married for 7th August and I'm really worry about, if they need something else, I wont be able to collect all the paper in time!! |

Hi,
When we got married in Grenada we brought a certificate from home (Scotland). In Scotland before you get marrried you display a notice in the local registrer office a few weeks before the wedding, this gives any one who has an objection (perhaps a former spouse ?) a chance to say they have an objection. After the few weeks has elapsed (with no objections) you get a certificate saying you are free to marry. What would you do if getting married in Austria is there an equivalent ? DougY |

unfortunately the matter is much more complicated. I'm leaving in austria but I've two citizenship; french & polish. well, to get some judicial or certified by court documents I've to require this from my native country and it takes a months (bureaucracy!!). it was kind of spontaneous decision get married in grenada. it would be for me more easily to bring just a affidavit certified by austrian lawyer saying I'm free to marry.
regards, beata :-( |

Hi BEE BEE,
since you have two citizenships I don't know if an austrian lawyer is the right person to give you an affidavit - maybe it will be the best if you contact the Board of Tourism direct, since I am not 100% sure. Write to gbt@caribsurf.com Sorry cannot help more. |

They typically are referring to documentation that proves that you are divorced, or single. This documentation has to be in the form of a certified decree,(In the case of divorcee's) which in plain language is a decree from the courts or commisioner that has a RAISED SEAL. BeeBee,
I wish that I had kept a diary step by step of how I did these arrangements, but here is some of what we had to do. We applied for the license at the Ministerial Complex located at the old Botanical Gardens. Ground floor, facing the building, registrars office is on the left and accessed from the outside. The fees I will list are all E.C. บ for the license, ฟ in Grenadian stamps. The stamps were purchased at the Post Office at the docks nearby. The license application is a blue form that you will need to have signed by" a Minister of Religion, Justice of Peace or any respectable person who can testify to the facts." You will need both names (in full), addresses, ocupations, age, marital status (Batchelor/Spinster, Widower/Widow, Divorcee), where born, How long you have been a resident of Grenada (Three full days, weekends don't count) Name of person to be married to(in full). I cannot remember if this is the form that I needed notarized, but at some point I used the services of Brenda Wardally-Beaumont, Attorney at law & Notary on Maloney Street in St Georges, phone 473-440-7021. I believe she was the "Respectable person who can testify to the facts." Cost was approx. โ.00 E.C. We had the ceremony performed by a Magistrate, Patricia Mark 473-440-0030 who was located at the courthouse @ Church Street, St Georges. Her fee was I believe 趚 E.C. She also had to sign one of the forms that had to go back to the Registry. Also involved was taking the papers to the Ambassadors office on the 6th(?) floor of the Ministerial complex. This is only needed in the case of divorcee's. Also, I do not know how long you will be in Grenada, but it took a day or two after the ceremony to have the wedding recorded and to get a copy with seal of the marriage certificate. I hope this helps you. Also, I have a phone number of 473 440 2255 or 2265 for the Prime Ministers office, and 473 444 4371 for a Particia Arthur who can help you if you have any questions. I am not sure if she was with the Prime Ministers office or Board of Tourism. Hope this helps you. If you get everything together, try to keeps notes of the steps needed and post them here as it would be a great help to many people!!!!! |
