Hello All,
My wife & I are planning our first trip to Grenada in August. We're consideringstaying at Lance Aux Epines Cottages for a week & Gem Holiday for a week. We like small, quiet places with a good beach and a kitchen to cook in. Any comments? Also, how easy is it to buy fresh seafood and vegetables? Do things get crowded at Carnival time?

Thanks for the help

John

Hi John,

Welcome to the travel forum.

Depending on your dates in August, you may find the times you want in certain resorts may be filling up fast. If I could get into L'ance Aux Epines Cottages in one of the air-conditioned apartments for two weeks, I would definitely do that. Beautiful quiet beach, and nice grounds.

If you are there for Carnival, you may find that it can get crowded at Carnival events, but the beaches are never a problem. They may get a little busier then, but nothing like Jamaica, DR, St. Martin, etc. The beaches never really get busy.

A few businesses close for Carnival events, but most stay open.

Enjoy your trip, but get your reservations confirmed as soon as you can, as accommodation may not be available for your dates.

Hi

We stayed at the Cottages last October - they are very good with everything you need close by. We did not hire a car but that was no problem as we got a taxi to one of the supermarkets in the Grand Anse area for supplies. This was about EC25-30 each way. The beach is quiet and the water calm as it is sheltered. Facilities in the kitchen in the cottage we stayed in were good and perfectly adequate for our limited cooking needs. We tended to eat out as there are some good restuarants nearby. It is a pity the Boatyard has closed as that was close and reasonable. Worth considering True Blue for a meal as not only is the food and setting great but they also provide a complimentary pick up if you book in advance.

Overall when we return back to Grenada hopefully in the not to distant future then LAE Cottages would be our number one place to stay.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Martin

Hi,

LAE is a great area and I've heard great things about the lodging. I will say, however, that my only stay in Grenada was at the Gem, and I was completely happy. The manager was very helpful, the staff friendly, and the views of the sunset were breath taking. It was also quite secluded, felt private, yet was a short walk from Grand Anse, and a long, but rewarding walk to St. George's. The BBC or Morne Rouge Beach is also one of the most beautiful in all of Grenada.

If you don't mind modest, simple lodging with an interior decorating scheme that recalls the 1950's-the Gem is a great choice.

Cheers!

Carl
