We just want to veg out on the beach with some good books, and maybe a rum punch every now and then. We are considering a deluxe room at the Flamboyant or we are considering Rendezvous Bay on Anguilla. Both look great and we can't make up our minds....any opinions? This would be in May 2005.

Kinda hard choice to make, huh ?

I guess I would look at the difference in levels of development between the two locations. I feel Grenada is less spoiled, and less developed compared to other locations, which adds to its beauty. Remember, buildings are not supposed to be taller than the palm tree's by law. Both look great in pictures, but I am obviously biased towards Grenada and it's people. Funny...Anguilla was my second choice, too. I would love to visit Anguilla, but I decided on a return trip to Grenada, instead. Maybe next year...

OTC:

Strange, that was my dilemma for this year too. I'd fancied Anguilla ever since we had a short search stop there before entering the USVI. It looked beautiful from the air, very turquoise waters, bit flat and scrubby. From the research I've done, Anguilla looks quite expensive compared to Grenada and doesn't have the beautiful rainforests and the lush greenery.
Well Grenada won out for us this year and I certainly wasn't dissappointed, far from it, it far exceeded my expectations and I will definately return to Grenada, I don't believe anywhere else has heart and soul like Grenada, it is kinda special. I am planning an overnight stop on Anguilla next year though, my curiousity got the better of me.

I agree, their are huge differences between Grenada and Anguilla. Their mutual appeal lies in the fact that Anguillans have a reputation for being generally friendly and warm like Grenadians. That, plus the fact that Anguilla is not the best known tourist destination, also like Grenada. I enjoyed Grenada immensely in April, but if I was looking for a more arrid destination, I definitely try Anguilla before the Bahamas, USVI, Antigua, etc...

Angiulla is a flat island but it rated # 1 for resorts in the caribbean and the water and beaches are beautiful. The water is crystal clear and the beaches go on and on and on with fine white sand. The resorts tend to be on the high side but they offer the best in food. There is a popular bar that everyone gathers at but the name has escaped me. Do some research and join a couple talk forums and you will learn alot. Caribbean Travel and Life magazine is full of informaton on this wonderful island. Its on our list to try, just haven't got around to it.
Yes, I'm back and alive and well. (bb (bb (bb (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Always book a day or two longer than you initially expect to stay-and it's still never long enough (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I know Anguilla pretty well, having stayed there 4 or 5 times over the last 20 years. After we return from this upcoming trip to Grenada (leaving this Saturday!!) and driving around the island for a week, I'll have a better idea of how to compare the two.

Regarding Rendezvous Bay on Anguilla: The patriarch and original owner of this hotel just died in April. Jerry Gumbs was quite a character, and he will be greatly missed. His son has been running the property for the last few years, as Jerry has been in semi-retirement. Rendezvous Bay has some very basic original motel type rooms not directly on the beach, and several villas that they built about 7-10 years ago which are oceanfront. Rod and I had booked a return stay there while the villas were just being completed, and I begged to stay in one, even though they were not officially open. That first evening when we came back from dinner we frightened a little mouse that had not yet been evicted from the property. When we went to bed, up on the cathedral ceiling, above the whirling ceiling fan, was an awful big palmetto bug. I just can't abide roaches or palmetto bugs!!! Rod was trying to sleep; I was lying there waiting for the bug to fall into the ceiling fan and get thrown down on me in the bed. Poor Rod! I made him get up, dismantle the shower to get the curtain rod, which was long enough to reach up to the ceiling and brush the roach to the floor, where he killed it. The next morning, I told Jerry about the mouse and the bug, and he gave me a lecture (a loud lecture) about staying in the villa before it was officially ready. (All I wanted was to get a can of bug spray from him!). I ended up buying a can in the store, and after spraying around, didn't have any more trouble. He treated me like an unruly daughter, and I loved it. I'm really going to miss him when I go back.

Wait-is this Betsy or Rod? Either way-great story. Make sure you post the details of your trip-we'd love to hear about it. And don't forget all the good driving advice you got off the forum (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Have a lot of fun, just remember-BRAKE FOR POTHOUNDS!!!
