Also: if neither of you mind, I now have three of the shots as wallpaper (monitor, I mean). We walked every day through SIBR and out past the verandah. . . and look, there's our lounger in another shot. . . and the dogs, yay!

I'm becoming more & more convinced that the only reason for me to take a camera will be for the wife & I to take pictures of each other to prove we were there- and we've taken a few courses in photography.

We've always taken a lot of pictures with a 35mm camera but no training what so ever. We end up throwing away a lot of the pictures we take. We've had a digital for a little while and with this trip it has taken over for the regular camera. You can take 50 pictures of the same scene to get one you like and delete the rest. It makes your photography skills appear a lot better than they are. I have a loptop for work which I brought along ONLY for the purpose of offloading the digital camera so we could keep shooting away. If you don't have one, get one and if you do pack one so you can post pics when you get back to help us all relive the experience. (bb (bb (bb

I have just gone digital and cant believe what great quality pictures we can take now. You can still post pictures on the forum without having a digital camera though, none of my album pics were taken with a digital camera. 2 of my pics (taken with an old camera) have been picked for a Caribbean calender and the guy who chose them (from 15,000 pics, not that I'm showing off you understand) says that his old Olympus camera still out does the digital ones he has. I know nothing at all about cameras, we just bought an Olympus digital something or other, I can't put it down, I've been snapping everything (IMG:http://img29.exs.cx/img29/7342/camera.gif)

I've got 2 Canon A-1 cameras that I bought about 20 years ago, and they take fantastic pictures. I've been scanning both prints and slides from past trips, but am not too happy with the results.
I bought a Nikon CoolPix 4300 (4 megapixel) in April, to have enough time to get familiar with it before Grenada- The options for settings is phenomenal- I've spent a lot of time with the manual and trying out different ways to take pictures, even the completely manual operation. I can't seem to get the same quality as with my 35mm, but quality does improve when I use a monopod. I think the advantage of lower bulk and, like Buwal says, the capability of taking several shots and deleting all except the best, makes the digital a better choice. I've got 2-256mb compact flash cards, which allow me to store a total of 320 pics using the Fine setting for 2048 pixels. It seems like that would be enough, but we once took almost 1,000 slides on a trip to Kuaia and Maui.
I'm also taking 3-Kodak Water & Sport underwater cameras for my snorkeling picture taking. I've got an old Canon underwater camera, but don't trust it anymore.
Does anyone know if you can get 35mm film developed and copied to CD's in St. Georges?

One of my old cameras is a Canon also and it is great, just too big and has this annoying habit of rewinding when it feels like it. We are having a few teething problems with our digital camera. We bought it to take away for the weekend we went to see the White lions (IMG:http://img10.exs.cx/img10/1774/images1.gif) at the West Midlands Safari Park and to visit Cadburys World (IMG:http://img28.exs.cx/img28/6231/cidcandy.gif) .

No problems using it but when I was taking pictures of the new white tiger babies the battery ran out (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) . I couldn't believe we spent £200 on a camera and then had to go and buy a throw away one (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) , what idiots we are! We suspect we were over using the flash when we shouldn't have been, I thought a battery should last longer than 50 pics?

sorry, but there is nowhere here on the island where you can get film developed and then saved on CD...Developed, Yes...

BE..sorry you didn't read the fine print that comes with all digital cameras..."buy and extra battery and memory card immediately".

We use a Nikon Coolpix 8700 and you can actually hear it sucking on the batteries when you take photos (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ....FANTASTIC photos though!

We took 2 extra memory stick thingys but never thought about the battery which is really dull of us considering the problem we have had with batteries in Grenada.

I was taking shots of a fantastic sunset when the battery in our very very old camera ran out so I had to swap to the quite old camera that is crap at night shots but better at day shots. When we went to Carriacou we only took the quite old camera to take shots from the plane, I joked that our only spare battery was now in the very very old camera back at Grand Beach and it would be just our luck for the other one to run out too, well sods law, it did after only one shot from the plane!!! (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) That left us with no camera for our Carriacou trip, thankfully the very nice taxi driver that picked us up at the airport took us to a shop in Hillsborough where he went in and bought us one (IMG:http://grenadatravelforum.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Every trip we seem to have some sort of technodisaster, why don't the batteries ever run when we are at home? Last year we broke the camcorder 3 days before our hols. On our honeymoon in this country my husband lost our camera and just before the end of the hoilday we managed to track it down in a pub. It was very amusing to find when we got our photos developed that it had been passed around the pub and the kitchens and they had all taken silly pictures of themselves and the pub dog, yes very amusing, great honeymoon pictures!!! BE- I also have the un-announced rewinding problem- on a Minolta APZ camera- I found it happens when I inadvertantly push the rewind button on the bottom of the camera with my thumb. I've covered the button with tape, etc., but it still happens occasionally.

Neil-I'm taking two rechargeable batteries and one throwaway to Grenada. The camera is rated for about 300 pics per charge, but I only get about 100- and I don't have the camera on when I'm uploading to my computer. I do use the monitor a lot to review pics for quality, etc.

Buwal- Are you the one who took the infamous pic of BE behind the Hardwood Bar?
